Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology

Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology

The Faculty of Agricultural Engineering & Technology is one of the five faculties at Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam. Initially, it was established as the Department of Agricultural Engineering at the defunct Sindh Agriculture College, Tandojam, in 1955. The Department was upgraded into a full-fledged Faculty of Agricultural Engineering in 1977.

The faculty has played a leading role in providing engineering solutions to agricultural problems and is committed to addressing the challenges and needs of the people of Sindh, in particular, and Pakistan, in general. Its primary goal is to take a leading role in promoting technological changes and their management for sustainable agricultural development in the province of Sindh through high-level education, research, and outreach activities by integrating technology, planning, and management.

Currently, the faculty offers a four-year B.E. (Agriculture) degree program. The program provides a fundamental understanding of the natural, basic, and engineering sciences, as well as their applications to design devices and processes in various general areas. A permutation of courses caters to the design and engineering aspects related to agriculture.

The focus of the program is on basic principles of engineering themes, such as irrigation systems, soil and water conservation and management, farm machinery, farm structures, environment, energy, and resource management, as well as ultramodern geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing (RS), and electronics and instrumentation applications related to agriculture. M.E. and Ph.D. degree programs are also offered in various disciplines, including Irrigation and Drainage, Land and Water Management, Farm Power and Machinery, Energy and Environment, and Farm Structures and Post-Harvest Engineering.

Besides teaching, the Faculty is actively engaged in extension and leading-edge research. The regular professional education and research activities are carried out in the six integral departments as follows:

  • Irrigation and Drainage
  • Farm Power and Machinery
  • Land and Water Management
  • Farm Structures and Post-Harvest Engineering
  • Energy and Environment
  • Basic Engineering

The Faculty of Agricultural Engineering & Technology strives to attain excellence in teaching and research, where students are encouraged to excel in their qualifications and competencies through basic and applied research, as well as technology transfer and outreach activities, including consultancy. The faculty boasts a highly qualified teaching staff and well-equipped laboratories, workshop facilities, a field experimental area, a library, a computer lab, an auditorium, and a seminar hall.

Graduates of the Faculty are registered with the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) as Professional Engineers. The B.E. (Agri.) degree holders are eligible to be appointed as Professional Engineers in Engineering-related fields. They are capable of undertaking professional engineering tasks in the field of Agricultural Engineering.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

The OBE committee of the Faculty prepared PEOs of the program in consultation with the Chairmen and Dean of the Faculty. During the preparation of PEOs, the vision of the Institute and the mission statement of the program were kept in mind. It was confirmed that the PEOs are aligned with the vision and mission statements of the University and the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering. The PEOs were slightly refined in the light of suggestions given by PEVs during their visit in September 2022 and approved by the IAB in Sep. 2022, BoF held on October 06, 2022, and finally, in the Academic Council in October 2022.

PEO 1

The graduates are expected to exhibit an in-depth knowledge of engineering principles, the application of modern tools, and the latest technologies with appropriate skills and attitudes to investigate and resolve agricultural engineering-related issues.

PEO 2

The graduates are expected to develop skills to work independently as well as in diverse teams to provide novel solutions to agriculture-related problems and effectively communicate the results to the stakeholders.

PEO 3

The graduates are expected to undertake professional practice considering social, ethical, and environmental boundaries within which engineering is practiced both locally and globally.

PEO 4

The graduates are expected to execute and manage teamwork, interpersonal skills, perpetual learning, and professional growth.

PEOs are placed/displayed at several places in the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering building, as well as placed on the website (www.fae.sau.edu.pk) of the Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam. These PEOs are also listed in the 2024-25 prospectus of the university.
