Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics was established in 1970 with
the inception of Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences at
the then Sindh Agriculture College, Tando Jam. The department focuses
on teaching of breeding strategies for improvement of farm animal production,
to improve the availability of better quality milk, meat, mutton and wool
etc. for the people of Pakistan. The department undertakes research on
breeding problems under local conditions and suggests the future strategies
for genetic improvement of existing germplasm; to meet the requirements
for ever increasing human population as well as for export. The main goal
is to increase per animal productivity keeping in view the stress on land
for human food and diminishing availability for fodder cultivation.
