Department of biotechnology was established in 1992-93. The objective of development of department was to produce graduates and postgraduates in the field of biotechnology to meet the manpower requirements in this discipline. The discipline is ultramodern and is of high significance to uplift the economy of Pakistan by improving and upgrading agriculture according to global developments. This also includes the efforts to improve and increase agriculture productivity in the form of quantity and quality to reduce hunger and malnutrition by elevating living standards particularly of rural people, which constitute majority of population.
