About

The Department of Veterinary Microbiology is one of the most important department of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences. The department of Veterinary Microbiology was established in 1971 under the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences with the aims and objectives to provide better knowledge to the graduates of the province of Sindh in particular and Pakistan in general against the diseases of veterinary importance. The department has 3 teaching staff members.

The department offers DVM, M. Sc and PhD courses to Graduate and Post-graduate students. At present 11 Ph. D scholars are registered in the department, in addition to that 15 students are registered for M.Sc program. The department of Veterinary Microbiology is conducting basic and applied research in the field of isolation, identification, characterization, biotyping and molecular biology of bacterial organisms. The department of Veterinary Microbiology has developed its bilateral linkages, particular on research side with different laboratories and institutes of the country where Post-graduate scholars are conducting their research for their degree program. Within country our linkages are established since last many years to laboratories and institutes of the country. The laboratories and institutes are: Central Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, Tando Jam, Vaccine Production Unit, Tando Jam, Poultry Research Institute, Korangi, Karachi, K& Ns, Karachi, Veterinary Research Institute, Quetta, Balochistan, Veterinary Research Institute, Peshawar, and Animal Science Institute, Islamabad, Pakistan.

The department of Veterinary Microbiology produced more than 40 Post-graduate scholars with high quality research work. The graduates of M.Sc level produced by this department are appointed as lecturer in different universities of the country where they are serving for the country and nation as well and also serving in different Veterinary hospitals and laboratories.

Future Strategies

1. To develop and establish the basic knowledge regarding the biotyping and molecular analysis of virulence factors of various bacterial organisms of veterinary importance.
2. To produce highly qualified and well equipped graduates with Veterinary Microbiological knowledge to serve better way for the country and nation as well
3. To establish self reliance and confidence into the graduates of Microbiology to conduct research and develop projects of different natures for future studies in the field of Microbiology independently.
